Phenomenal Women Of The Web

<rant>yeah, so i'm a member as you can see from the bottom of this page. i have one gripe. why are the graphics so lousy? has this person not heard of anti-aliased type? </rant>

packing...and more packing. and lots of throwing away. you ever wonder why pack-rat'ness is passed from generation to generation? my mom hates for me to throw anything away. whenever i give something away, she wants to make sure i'm not getting rid of something good. there's a reason why i'm getting rid of it - i'm not using it anymore, and it's a pain to move it. hm. "oops! that must have gotten lost in the move..." i think that's my new motto.

at least she's not going to try and make me keep the laser jet II that has so little memory, it won't even print a webpage...

rain, rain....
filed under: life

finally - it looks like we'll get a day (and maybe even a weekend!) without rain. i was beginning to wonder if i'd been moved to seattle while i was asleep or something. it hasn't really been as hot as it usually is, either. we're still in the low 90s when normally we're in the midst of a time when the high's always above 100. weird. let's just hope it stays like this until after i've moved.

good news! i got the apartment i wanted. :) i'll post pictures after i've got them. (.oO i love my digital camera!)

anyway...time to get to work. four more days until i'm downstairs permanently!

packing! moving! other fun stuff!
filed under: life

finally, after much haggling, i'm being let out of my lease early. let's see, would you feel safe if someone had tried to break into your car and your apartment in less than a month? i didn't think so. neither did i. mom's disappointed that i'll be signing a new lease for a year, but well, i don't want to move without a job - and that's what i'd be doing.

so, now i wait impatiently to hear back from the apartment that i put in an application for...but it's the one that i wanted - third floor, on the end, facing the trees. it'll be like living in a tree house, except with air conditioning and more than one room. :) moving there, however, is going to be interesting i think. getting all that furniture up three flights of stairs... *shudder*

so now i pack like a madwoman. the bf doesn't understand why i'm starting to pack 30 days before i'm supposed to move. i'm beginning to remember - 25 boxes of books later, i took a good look at my desk and discovered that i had probably another box of books-worth sitting on top. sometimes i wonder how i managed to fit all this into my small apartment...and then i wonder how i'm going to get it all out of there. 27-fling boogie, you are my friend.

so now the real question is - do i go to the dog show in houston on saturday and sunday, just sunday, or stay home and pack? hmmm....

it's friday! :-D

and it's official - i have a new job. yay! same place, different function. i'm an official webmaster-type person now with a raise and an office that's not in the front and a job that doesn't include answering phones for the office. plus i get to do stuff that i like, like play with images and webpages and stuff. maybe even some flash. oh, the possibilities are endless! i start on the 23rd, whether they've replaced me or not, which is nice 'cause that way i know that i won't be hanging around here as a receptionist for forever.

yeah, life is good. *lazy grin*

why is it that some
filed under: life

why is it that some people can be so nasty when sending out emails? is it just that they don't think about how it might come across? do they just have an extra large chip on their shoulder? what's the deal? don't we have enough meanness in the world what with people randomly shooting each other in the airports?

Email in reference:

Original nice person's message:
please delete my name from the list, thanks & gig 'em!

My trying-to-be-nice-and-helpful response:
I'll delete you from the list, but for future reference, the instructions on how to unsubscribe are at the bottom of each and every e-mail sent out from the group.

Thanks!

Mean person:

Thanks for finally deleting my name after I e-mailed you twice about doing so. For future reference quit sending people e-mails after they ask you too.

(...uh, hello? where did this come from??)

Me:
Did you need me to take your name off? It looks like you're still on the list.

For what it's worth, I don't recall seeing your emails asking to be removed. Part of the reason I replied like I did to the other person was because I was just letting everyone know that they can unsubscribe themselves - that's part of the reason we went with yahoo from the TAMU listservs.

I wasn't trying to be nasty - in fact the person emailed me personally afterwards and said she didn't realize, but thank you for being prompt.

---
so, yeah. where did that random meanness come from?

an update...the swing cat's faculty advisor wrote back a scathing email to this person...heh. so nice to have people to stick up for me... :)
