why is it that some
filed under: life

why is it that some people can be so nasty when sending out emails? is it just that they don't think about how it might come across? do they just have an extra large chip on their shoulder? what's the deal? don't we have enough meanness in the world what with people randomly shooting each other in the airports?

Email in reference:

Original nice person's message:
please delete my name from the list, thanks & gig 'em!

My trying-to-be-nice-and-helpful response:
I'll delete you from the list, but for future reference, the instructions on how to unsubscribe are at the bottom of each and every e-mail sent out from the group.

Thanks!

Mean person:

Thanks for finally deleting my name after I e-mailed you twice about doing so. For future reference quit sending people e-mails after they ask you too.

(...uh, hello? where did this come from??)

Me:
Did you need me to take your name off? It looks like you're still on the list.

For what it's worth, I don't recall seeing your emails asking to be removed. Part of the reason I replied like I did to the other person was because I was just letting everyone know that they can unsubscribe themselves - that's part of the reason we went with yahoo from the TAMU listservs.

I wasn't trying to be nasty - in fact the person emailed me personally afterwards and said she didn't realize, but thank you for being prompt.

so, yeah. where did that random meanness come from?

an update...the swing cat's faculty advisor wrote back a scathing email to this person...heh. so nice to have people to stick up for me... :)
