las vegas
filed under: life

yes, i'm deprived. for the first time in my life (aside from the airport) i went to las vegas this last weekend. mostly it was to see celine dion's 'a new day' (second row. almost dead center. wow.) but we stopped by pretty much everywhere else too. we watched the dancing waters at the bellagio from the top of paris' eiffel tower (which doesn't really compare to the original, but it's still pretty cool), saw the lionesses as the mgm grand, the nyfd tribute at new york new york...and pretty much all of the pavement between the hotels. it's amazing how *huge* the hotels are - you think 'oh, it's just two hotels down,' but that's like 10 normal city blocks.

i still want to see chihuly's chandelier at the bellagio (i completely forgot about it) and the ti show (don't ask. we kept missing it) and all the cirque de soleil shows (particularly 'o'). so, i guess that means another trip some other time. maybe this time we'll stay a little more central on the strip.

oh, and shopping. of course we found the ross that was having a grand opening (two skirts and a pink and black abstract scarf) and banana republic that was having a sale (a beautiful gray and white leopard-print scarf). didn't find any shoes, though. don't know what i'm going to do for the basie ball yet. (sigh.)

in the end: a great weekend.

road trip!
filed under: life

this weekend was one huge road trip. saturday night 8 of us were dancing for the stillettos in brawley. (read: desert. middle of nowhere. lots of dust and heat and wind.) we left around 2:30p from san diego and rolled in just before 5p. a quick change, four hours of dancing, showers all around, and a late dinner later, we were all passed out asleep. the next morning after a quick trip south to el centro to find the local starbucks, we went north again, grabbed the two slow pokes of the group, and six of us headed up the back way to julian. it was 85 degrees when we left brawley, and by the time we got up into julian it couldn't have been more than about 70...if that. we all looked silly shivering in flip flops and t-shirts in the wind. apple pie a la mode was the one thing we stopped for before we were back in the car again. 4 left to go back to san diego...and then there were two. sukkid and i headed up 79 toward temecula to meet up with another group to dance to the harry james orchestra. home again, then, with a stop off by my mom's house to gladly take a vintage suit off her hands (it fits perfectly!) and a few other miscellaneous things.

400 miles in two days...i'm tired.

lead heavy
filed under: life

i've noticed the last week or so that venues have been really lead heavy. i'm not complaining - i get to dance as much as i want, which is pretty much the entire time. in fact, i usually have to start a list. hah! miss social butterfly.

this last weekend was a blast. i ended up staying home on monday and getting stuff done. i've finally got about half my craft stuff put away as of last night. i'm labelling as i go, too, so i can find and/or put back the things i get out. probably the only thing i'm still looking for a place for is my sewing machine. and now that i've been here for a bit, i'm also thinking about shuffling a few things about - my dresser out of my closet so i can put my hamper in there...boxes of books to keep that i don't have room to display out of the linen closet and maybe under the spare bed... i'm still evaluating space. everything will fit, it's just a matter of figuring out the best spot for it.

oh, and i'm decluttering as i go. it's a good thing.

it's my birthday...all week long!
filed under: life

i've been telling everyone i was going to milk my birthday all week...i think i've succeeded. monday i got a birthday jam at neiman's. last night - my acutal birthday - a group of about 14 of us went up to pasadena to lindy groove where the three of us birthday girls got cake and a birthday jam. i think i was crazy for driving the two and half hours, but at least gary drove on the way back. i didn't get to sleep, though, as jamie had us all telling stories to keep us awake. not like it helped her any - she kept dozing off. poor gary had to be at work at 8am. me? i told work not to expect me until 11 am or so. i think i rolled in about 12:15 'cause i got busy finishing the bookshelf that was in shambles in my living room.

but anyway. tonight is the family get together. i'm still not sure what mom is making. originally we'd talked about chicken, but then the number of us that were going to be there grew, so maybe we're having the family standby of tacos. either way, i'd be more than thrilled!

tomorrow sukkid and i are headed to disneyland for the day. they have a band that plays on saturday nights, so we figured as long as we were going dancing, we might as well show up early and ride some rides while we were there. maybe we'll get over to california adventure - i haven't been there yet.

sunday is the dance in san juan capistrano. i have been going for the blues band in the evening, but might show up earlier for the dixieland jazz band. still not sure. and then there's monday. i thought i might stay home in the morning, but since my sister's bf gave me tickets to the races...maybe it'll be the races during the day before neiman's that night.

and people wonder why i'm never home...and why my apartment still isn't put together...

it's nice to be a social butterfly for a change.
