i'm feeling quite a bit lighter lately. we had an "exchange day" at work today - everyone was able to bring in stuff to give away if they wanted...and everyone else could go through it to see if there was anything they could use. kind of a "browar exchange" of sorts. like our f.i.e. -- family item exchange. anyway, amvets is coming to the office on monday to pick up what's left. i'm just glad to have most of it out of my apartment. what i have left is designated for mom and will be making the trip on sunday to her house. now to get the last few shelves from ikea so i can get my last bookcase put in my closet and get my bedroom cleared out. it will be so nice to have a place for everything, and everything in its place...
a few months ago gary surprised me with a copy of sheet music for Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring. i've been working on it here and there - i've got the main theme committed to memory, but i kind of stopped at the point in the music where i discovered that i was going to have to retune a string on my hammered dulcimer. once i get that done, the rest of the piece shouldn't be a problem. but tonight i picked up the hammers as i walked by and played a little bit. amazing how muscle memory comes in handy. i can still pick out and play my favorite tunes - over the waterfall, liberty, and come thou fount (at least those were the ones that my fingers decided to play tonight). i know i've lulled others to sleep with my playing, but it's funny how it also kind of lulls me into a meditative state. i sleep much better after i've played for a little bit. i suppose i should start practicing on my non-dance nights... (is there such a thing?) with a copy of garageband on my mac, you might see some of the songs (in better format than before) showing up on the site here soon. or maybe not so soon. ;)
mom and sis have had the flu. so's my friend sal. i've got my fingers crossed that i'm not going to catch it.
one of my co-workers and i started back to curves today - at lunch to be specific. the location near work reminds me a lot of the one in escondido. i really do like it much better than the hillcrest location. the workout pushed my mid-afternoon slump back a few hours, too! it felt great to be back!
work, dance, sleep. repeat.
i've been getting emails from random high school classmates about the reunion (the one we were supposed to have last summer, which now seems to be happening this summer)... it's going to be interesting to see what everyone is like. i hope that no one will be the same as they were in high school. at least not in how they treat me. high school is definitely a time in my life that i would not care to repeat.
thursday was our work retreat -- at disneyland. i had so much fun...
friday was uncle roy's memorial service. i got to see people that i hadn't seen in forever. in fact, i finally got to meet a cousin i had never seen in person before...and she's nine. the service reminded me a lot of silver taps - 21 gun salute, taps played. probably the only difference was the bagpiper. he seemed a little off key here and there, but i can make too many comments since i really don't know how difficult bagpipes are to play. it was nice, at least.
saturday i spent in bed nearly all day. a sinus headache made me nauseated every time i moved, so i didn't move much. it finally went away a little bit mid-afternoon, so got out of the house briefly to go see elektra with sal. i enjoyed the movie overall, though some of the fight scenes were a little odd in parts.
today? church/choir, 4 loads of laundry, cleaned up the kitchen, and flung my way through my closet and dresser. (we flybabies are in the middle of a super fling boogie, so i'm doing my best to keep up. i'm about 90 pounds or so lighter.)
i don't care how many times i hear or see it, it still makes me laugh...
What do you call cheese that isn't yours?
Nacho cheese.

this has to have been the best new year's weekend that i've ever had. san diego had their 'rhythmic arts festival' - aka the new year's exchange. it was all about tons of dancing, staying up late, and figuring out just how many people i could squash into my apartment comfortably...or semi-comfortably (that would be 8 for the record. and one bathroom.) i got to visit with some people i hadn't seen in a while, and matthew even showed back up after having disappeared for a few months while finishing up school.
i bravely entered the balboa competition - i think i might do it again next year and see what happens. hah. i don't think i'd be brave enough to do it "for real" at the bal rendezvous in april. but i don't know.
so now i sit and nurse a cold (all that staying out til 4am) and deal with beginning of the month foo at work...and bask in the memories of what has been the greatest start to a new year yet.
