music to sleep by
filed under: life

a few months ago gary surprised me with a copy of sheet music for Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring. i've been working on it here and there - i've got the main theme committed to memory, but i kind of stopped at the point in the music where i discovered that i was going to have to retune a string on my hammered dulcimer. once i get that done, the rest of the piece shouldn't be a problem. but tonight i picked up the hammers as i walked by and played a little bit. amazing how muscle memory comes in handy. i can still pick out and play my favorite tunes - over the waterfall, liberty, and come thou fount (at least those were the ones that my fingers decided to play tonight). i know i've lulled others to sleep with my playing, but it's funny how it also kind of lulls me into a meditative state. i sleep much better after i've played for a little bit. i suppose i should start practicing on my non-dance nights... (is there such a thing?) with a copy of garageband on my mac, you might see some of the songs (in better format than before) showing up on the site here soon. or maybe not so soon. ;)

mom and sis have had the flu. so's my friend sal. i've got my fingers crossed that i'm not going to catch it.

one of my co-workers and i started back to curves today - at lunch to be specific. the location near work reminds me a lot of the one in escondido. i really do like it much better than the hillcrest location. the workout pushed my mid-afternoon slump back a few hours, too! it felt great to be back!
