yesterday was an...interesting day. i got in a car accident coming back from lunch. i was scooting across the street from an alley, looked both ways, back to the left, then looked back to see a car right in front of me. somehow i managed to just bounce off his back tire. his only damage seemed to be a flat tire (probably due to my license plate sticking out of it) and a 4' scrape at the edge of his rear-seat door. after i hit him, i was sure i had dented in the entire side of his car, so i was pretty relieved. heh. only i could hit someone exactly like that. at least no one was hurt and he was rather nice about it considering.
my car, well, the front bumper is currently detached part-way. sean screwed it back on for a temporary fix. i always said i'd drive my car until the tires fell off. i agree with Matt -- the bumper is close enough. ;) anyway, i think i'm just going to go ahead and get the new car. amazing how quickly that all comes together. it should be in tomorrow, and all i've got to do is take care of the trade-in foo and sign the loan paperwork. at least i'm at a spot to just jump in and get a new car thanks to my type a personality about the whole car-buying thing over the past few months.
so yeah. that was my day. oh, and seems sal's scored us all a jacuzzi or pool-front room in LA for camp hollywood this weekend. i don't know whether to be nervous, excited, tired, happy...what with all the car stuffs, the 1 or 2 competitions that i'm entered in and gary coming up for the competitions and dances, i'm just a jumble of emotions at the moment.
less than two weeks until competition...matt and i seem to be pretty ready, though. stuff isn't perfect, but it's definitely cool enough that hopefully we'll make up for it. we were able to do our split move tonight twice at Henry's without really missing a beat, so I'm pretty sure we can handle it during competition. i only hope we don't take first -- that means we won't be able to compete in the amateur comp next year! eek! i can't imagine going up against the pros again... i had enough of that at the ibcs this last april.

i finally got my copy of pirates of the carribbean from netflix on thursday...and then today, i got the duplicate copy from when i reported the first one missing. ah well. it did take the first copy nearly a week to get there. now mom has a copy to watch while i finish watching this one.
other than that, i'm recovering from a wonderful, busy weekend. i think i'll sleep early tonight.
up at the family reunion in idyllwild, here i am sitting in the middle of town piggybacking onto someone's wireless. sad state of affairs, but at least i know i haven't missed anything important in the way of email. mostly we're just downloading songs for the talent show. me? i'm making my own music. :)
Maybe you will find a love
That you discover accidentally
Who falls against you gently
As a pickpocket
Brushes your thigh
Further to fly
Effortless music from the cameroons
The spinning darkness of her hair
A conversation in a crowded room going nowhere
The open palm of desire
Wants everything
It wants everything
It wants everything
Sometimes I’ll be walking down
The street and I’ll be thinking
Am I crazy
Or is this some morbid little lie
Further to fly

always a favorite song of mine, though i also like any of the songs from either of his more african-influenced albums (graceland and rhythm of the saints). rhythm of the saints just has such a laid-back, hot-afternoon-with-a-cool-breeze in the shade kind of feel...
after months of working on coaxing 'jesu joy of man's desiring' out of my dulcimer and fretting that i didn't have an A#, i had a 'duh' moment this evening. B flat is pretty darn close to A#. i have one of those. part 2 of jesu, here i come. i've at least got the first part down - the melody at least. i'm working bits of the harmony in as i can. the music i have is written for guitar, so it's not too complicated. perhaps later i'll add some embellishments. hah. first things first!
other than that, it's all about the family reunion this weekend. it's like 3 days of summer camp without all of the mandatory schedules. instead, we can sit in and play games or get out and hike. i hope to do both. the 2nd annual hall family talent show is coming up too. at least this time i'll be prepared! (though it looks like i might have to try and squish the dulcimer in gary's car after all. mom's not coming down to work the morning that she's leaving...) who knows -- i might end up doing a charleston routine with celeste again!
it'll be nice to get out of town for a bit...that's for sure!
