all together now!
filed under: must hear/see/read/do

if you ever get a chance to see billy watson perform with the fremonts, it's a must. chris michaels (bass player who has now moved far, far away to austin) and a few others were there as well. all evening long they traded on and off the stage, passing the mic around for everyone to have a chance to sing. much of the hilarity started when billy and troy both got on stage and traded the harmonica mic back and forth. billy's antics behind troy when he wasn't looking had us all in tears, we were laughing so hard. i guess when you've played in blues bands long enough "let's play a grinder in a" means something to you, because it always seemed to come together in a really cool way.

this is why i love listening to live music, especially when you get a bunch of different bands together. (i suppose that's why the 'buddy wuddy show' at lestat's with ben and nathan, anna troy, robin henkel, and billy watson is always so fun!)

the more i go to lindy groove the more i like it. maybe i was just having a good night last night. maybe people are starting to know who i am. whatever. i sat out maybe 5 songs in the 4 hours i was there. in fact, i had to start turning people down because my feet were killing me about 12:45am. barbara morrison was just awesome. thank you to all the people i danced with - didn't matter who with, i did not have one bad dance last night.

i'm mostly awake today, with the help of caffeine and adrenaline from last night. fremonts and billy watson tonight at gordon biersch - let's just hope i can stay away to enjoy this rarity. sounds like the watkins family hour rocked largo last night - a good night all around.

i'm not sure what this weekend holds for me, but i'm pretty certain it won't include an early morning tomorrow.

i've been mucking about with my myspace page. still can't decide what song i want, but nickel creek's toxic - which cracks me up every time i hear it - it the current choice. jamie cullum's inprovisation 1 was up for a day or so. check out his myspace page for it if you missed it.

pasadena from san diego. on a weeknight. until midnight at least. but it's lindy groove! and they're six! and it's barbara morrison! the things i do for swing dancing. and hey, i have to give someone else a chance to win the jack and jill at the firehouse, right?

if only it wasn't also the watkins family hour at largo too. maybe i need to move to l.a.

playing catch up
filed under: life

whenever i disappear from the world for a few months, it's a safe bet i'm moving. i'm finally resettled in escondido, though i still have a few boxes of things in my previous place/the office.

sunday, i finally chose a color and purchased paint and paint 'stuff'. i figured i'd just do one wall so that i could make sure that i really liked the color. weeeeell...9 hours later i was precariously perched on the vanity sink, painting around the medicine cabinet and light fixture. it wouldn't have taken that long except that i had to do one wall at a time, moving things away (including the elfa shelving and the tv hung on the wall) and then putting them back before i could move on to the next wall. thank goodness it was warm and the paint dried fast! bit by bit it's starting to feel like home to me. after two moves in less than a year...i'm not moving again for a while - i hope!

last week i ventured out dancing on my own again. g is up north about an hour and a half now and only down on weekends. i have to confess the lure of a weekly jack and jill contest at the firehouse has been what drew me out. i didn't make the first cut last week, but i had so much fun, i figure i'll do it again. as a bonus, it's good practice for camp hollywood in a month and a half.

last weekend mom, sis and i had our pictures taken at balboa park. i was pleasantly surprised to actually like the way they turned out. there's a couple of them over on my myspace page.
