silence
A whirling world
Consumed by self
Busily fretting the day away
Moving faster and noisier than before
until there was no room for Him
A time of endless moving
and stopping
and starting
and going
and running
Until a great thunderously silent voice
Broke in -
Hush Now!
Be Still!
Suddenly, a longed-for
peace
As if the world held its breath
Was it like this long
ago?
Did the world its usual noise forego?
Silently, quietly, peacefully waiting
To hear the cries of a newborn King?
Did the ox, the cow,
the sheep
Their lonely watch silently keep?
Until Mary's Babe quietly slept
in Mary's arms so closely kept?
Oh for the peace known
so long ago
When the world its noise did forego
All in reverence of a newborn thing
Our God, Our Savior, our Heavenly King.
